Most expensive cities in Italy: Top 10 ranking by cost of living

Which are the most expensive cities by cost of living in Italy? The new survey by theUnione Nazionale Consumatori (National Consumers' Union ) shows us which cities have had the highest price increases, analysing Istat data.

Here is the ranking of the cities with the highest cost of living.

The ranking was compiled by examining price increases in different categories: food and drink, water and waste, kindergarten, restaurants and hotels.

Here are the cities most affected by inflation for each category analysed.

  • Cosenza

Cosenza

Cosenza is Italy's most expensive city for food and non-alcoholic beverages, with an increase of +16% compared to last year. The Calabrian city also leads in price rises for restaurants with an increase of 9.9 %.

  • Ascoli Piceno

Ascoli Piceno

Ascoli Piceno had a price increase of +14.2% for the same category. The third most expensive Italian city for drinking and eating is Viterbo, followed by Imperia, Padua. Terno, Gorizia, Ravenna, Udine, Macerata, Pistoia and Verona.

  • Catania

Catania Duomo

Catania is the most expensive Italian city for water supply, waste collection and condominium expenses. The annual increase for water and services is 16.4%.

It is followed by Bolzano with + 12.4%. In third place are Verona, Como, Rovigo, Pisa, Massa-Carrara, Cremona, Mantua and Milan.

  • Ancona

Ancona

Ancona is the most expensive Italian city for pre-school and primary education. The increase in the cost of services was 12.1%. The ranking is followed by Como with 12%, Bergamo, Florence, Benevento, Rome, Pordenone, Biella, Brindisi and Cosenza.

  • Palermo

Palermo

Cosenza is the most expensive city for catering, in second place we find Palermo with a 9.4% increase and in third place Verona with +9.2%.

Forlì-Cesena, Sassari, Brescia, Viterbo, Olbia-Tempio, Gorizia, Pistoia and Trento follow.

  • Trapani

For the accommodation, hotels, agritourism and hospitality category in general, the most expensive city in Italy is Trapani, which sees prices rise by 45% compared to last year. It is followed by Milan with +43.8% and Venice with + 34.2%.
